upfashioning

we got our camera lens back on friday from the nikon repair place in new york. it was covered under the warranty, so this camera continues to be free.

i was really jonesing to take some pictures, so--completely out of character--i shot a tutorial. i was just setting out to improve one of layla's dresses after i saw her in it and she looked a little witchy, but then i thought i'd give a step-by-step a go if anyone was interested. so i took pics along the way.

but i am not typically Mrs. Impart Knowledge here on the blog, so i want to make sure that someone...anyone would even be interested in this (since i hear tutorial posts are lots of work), before i give up the goods.

mostly i just want to document the awesome before and after; with or without tutorial. i bought this american eagle 77kids dress on mega sale and thought it would be 100% cute. when it arrived back in january, i loved it. now that she finally fits in it and i can see it on her...i barf it. it's too long (I HATE long baby girl dresses that interfere with crawling and dont show off the legs and booty) and the length plus the ruffles make her look a little baby elphaba-esque.

so ere' my salespitch: based on what i did to fix up this dress you could learn any or all of the following: converting a longer dress into a crawler-friendly, show-off-the-chunks shortie dress (when simple hemming isnt possible, as with ruffle skirts) AND/OR adding a braided flower waist to an existing dress AND/OR how to mix and match a bodice and skirt portion from two different pieces (say, taking the top half of a onesie and mating it with the bottom of another dress for a cute color block look).

only about a zillionty times better! (the color is actually the same in both, it's just the lighting or how i edited the pics making the before look so much darker)

i dont think my feelings will be hurt too bad if nobody is down with this. i will balm my wounds with the knowledge that i am off the hook trying to be coherent and convey information. i'll just go back to writing about poop and cellulite and we'll all just pretend this never happened.

but seriously, such an improvement, right?!?! she even looks cuter and happpier in her "new" dress!

  6. Dooooo it. Anything that transforms baby from Elphaba to...I don't know, Glinda?...is worth a share. I agree with the baby-dress-length argument. Why so long?
